End Ostrich Races in Arizona
- The Chandler Chamber of Commerce
- United States of America
For thirteen years the city of Chandler has held an annual Chandler Ostrich Festival.
For three days, they subject ostriches to various forms of animal abuse including placing hoods over the birds' heads so they are unable to see, removing the hoods by yanking their necks when the birds are to "perform", harnessing large chariots to the birds to pull large children and adults around a racetrack, and placing large children and adults on the birds' backs for riding purposes.
During the chariot races, most ostriches wind up disoriented, and crash into each other, as it is not in the bird's nature to be perfoming in this manner.
I support ending the tradition of ostrich racing in Chandler, Arizona.
