On December 4th, 2019, at the Weymouth Consolidation, our daughter Gabriel Elizabeth had an injury on the playground. Gabriel had grabbed her chest and stomach and passed out, hitting the back of her head on a metal grate that caused a severe concussion. Gabriel has brain injuries. According to the Board of Education, the playground is to be made with soft material, such as wood chips so maybe even that would help to cover the grate. We are still going through tests from Doctors the original stomach and heart issues as to why she had passed out in the first place. I would like there to be more yard duty staff so that this is no longer an issue and a safer playground for the children. If the Weymouth Consolidation school could cover over the grate, maybe extend the fence that would be great. Gabriel's brain injuries could be permanent, and we can't undo what has happened on the schoolyard. We can, however for the future. So that other children will not suffer severe injury to their heads the way our daughter has.
We the undersigned call upon Tri-County Regional Centre for Education, and Yarmouth, Family and Children’s Services of Yarmouth County to make changes for the safety of our children
