MAF384 - FINANCIAL MODELLING
As students we pay huge amounts of money to Deakin University for our Commerce Degrees. We expect decent teaching, ample support, and a dedicated staff for every unit we enrol in.
This Semester, the guidance for the final exam of MAF384 has most certainly not met the above standards, and the final exam was unreasonable. Let alone this course is only available in trimester 1. Most of the students enrolled in are in their last trimester before graduation.
Therefore we are petitioning the Vice Chancellor to take urgent action to rectify this embarrassing situation for the University and ensure that no other students will be subjected to the circus we have experienced this semester!
We request that she give us an urgent meeting to discuss below.
We would like to see:
- An indépendant audit of this Semester's teaching, that involves interviews with students.
- Answers on why the exam did not reflect the 80% of the course work most of us expected to see and why the unitchair gave us misleading direction for final exam preparation. We would like to know how such an unrepresentative exam paper was ever approved and how there could be no mention of: VaR, Event Studies, CAPM, beta, matrices, DTs, Financial Statement preparation or WACC
- Pass all students enrolled in MAF384 or set the MAF384 exam again or a refund of all fees to us students
- A standardising of the marking to reflect the hardship faced by each of us in this unit.
- A formal apology from Head of School to each student
