Marjorie was born a boy named Martin. From a very young age his mum could tell he was special and different to her other children, playing with dolls rather than trucks. Although he was a boy, Martin felt like a girl. Because of this, he suffered years of torment at school...getting bullied. What helped Martin through the though times, was his love of horses. Those hard times of bullying still effected poor Martin years after, unfortunately turning to drugs and a life in and out of prison. Marjorie, who she by now preferred to be called, was a target whilst in jail because of identifying as transgender. Marjorie's helpless mother's heart broke when on every visit she would sight yet another bruise or mark or her child. Marjorie was brutally gang raped by 5 prisoners leaving her hospitalised with a colostomy bag. She spent 12 months in hospital when she told her mum, she didn't want to live anymore. Marjorie had lost her will to live and passed away on the 1st of July 2018.
We, the undersigned, call on the Australian Government to change the law to put effective protection methods from prison staff in place for prisoners against other prisoners/prison staff. This duty of Care failure of the staff, will have harsh reprocussions to enforce the sense of security and the protection where there is a severe lack of. Basic Human Rights!!!
