In speaking to friends, families’ friends’ neighbor in our Cornhill neighborhood. Its clears that there is an increase of harassment type actives being initiated by the Utica Police Department.
There is an increase of car stops, ticketing and other acts of discriminatory radical profiling. The victims of police action are aim toward minorities, the young, and the poor.
Brutality is one of several forms of police misconduct which include false arrest, intimidation, racial profiling, and police corruption. Race and ethnicity are simply not useful criteria for suspicion.
A generalization linking race or ethnicity to crime will therefore inevitably sweep in many innocent people. And police will miss guilty people who don't fit their stereotypes.
We the community are asking the Police Department to have this action stop on the streets of Cornhill.
