As issues arise, laws need to be changed, and formed to protect the safety of society. Colonel Russell Williams, charged and convicted with the murders of Jessica Lloyd, and Marie-France Comeau. After his conviction, Williams is serving a life sentence in Kingston Penitentiary. While being in this institution, Williams is still receiving his military pension.

The federal government needs to create a law to prevent inmates serving sentences for murder, to receive a pension or any other form of income, to deter others from committing these serious crimes.

Any person who commits murder in the first or second degree, forfeit the right to any pension or form of income once being convicted.

Due to the nature of these crimes, a payment of pension, or other forms of income, may be constituted as a reward for these monstrous actions. Paying out pensions to convicted criminals should not be a concern for the federal government.

Denying pensions to these convicted criminals will act as a deterrence to these crimes. This will also allow the government more money for other aspects rather than spending out pensions for convicted murderers, this money could go to education or health care.
