Lap belts are optional because it's difficult for bus drivers to enforce," Nathan Graf, HISD transportation general manager, said.
This is just crazy. Adults are ticketed for not wearing seatbelts yet our children are put on buses everyday without even the option to seatbelt themselves in. I do understand it would be difficult for the bus driver to enforce as stated by the HISD Transportation General Manager but what are we teaching our children?
How can we stress to them the importance of using seat belts in cars when we don't require them to wear them while traveling on a bus?
I feel that it is my job as a parent to educate my children on the safety of using a seatbelt and the importance of always buckling and the school disticts job to provide the seatbelt for my child to use.
We, the undersigned, call on the City of Friendswood to install seatbelts in all buses transporitng our children to and from school and to and from school activities.
