We wish to question the Government’s proposal to severely cut funding for undergraduate university study and to correspondingly greatly increase student tuition fees.
We, philosophers at the University of Bristol, wish to express our solidarity with our students in their opposition to the proposals of the British government for higher education.
Higher education is a benefit, not only to the individual, but also to the wider society. Consequently, we believe that it is unjust for the entire cost of its provision in the arts, humanities and social sciences to fall on students via fees.
