There are very few fast, reliable Internet service providers available in the Ooltewah, TN area, and due to little to no competition, the cost is often quite high in comparison with neighboring areas with more options.
Out of the options that are available, the speeds are often very low and there's no local customer support. Comcast is the majority service. Their service includes restrictive monthly bandwidth caps with costly overage fees. AT&T is only available in few select portions of the area. The only other option is CenturyLink which now has no local employees.
I am writing to voice my support of Volunteer Energy Cooperative as VEC works to provide broadband internet service to the Ooltewah, TN area.
I believe access to broadband internet is not longer an amenity but rather a necessity. Any area should have access to multiple Internet carriers in order to provide healthy competition and affordable costs for consumers.
I strongly encourage you to approve the grant request that Volunteer Energy has submitted on the behalf of Ooltewah, Hamilton County, TN.
