Our climate is changing. We must work together locally to meet the challenges we face in our community, to ensure our local energy use, land use, waste management, transport, infrastructure and development become sustainable.
In February 2022, Burwood Council agreed to establish a local Sustainability and Environment Committee to support the Sustainability Strategy once it is completed. Community representation on this committee will help determine priorities and provide much needed local expertise to Council.
We don’t have a moment to lose - but draft Terms of Reference may not be prepared until June 2022!
We must act now to reduce local emissions through low carbon and energy efficient homes, improve tree canopy cover and grow the urban forest, develop street-scapes that encourage walking, cycling and public transport, and improve access to open green space within our community.
We call on Burwood Council to prioritise the Sustainability and Environment Committee. It must be established now, to guide both the completion and implementation of the Sustainable Burwood Strategy. We don’t have a moment to lose.
