A Controlled Re-Opening of Tip sites in Lancashire
- Promoted by Our West Lancashire
- Closed on
Thank you for supporting this petition. This afternoon (6th May) Lancashire County Council have announced that the tips will re-open next week including both of those in West Lancashire. This would not have taken place without the concern shown by the public of Lancashire, including this petition. Thank you again.
Lancashire County Council's statement is here:
During the Coronavirus crisis, Lancashire County Council has closed its Household Waste and Recycling Centres ("tips").
Regrettably fly-tipping incidents have increased in recent days and also complaints about garden fires. Many residents are having to store waste at home, which is made worse by the current lockdown and the spring cleaning season.
Obviously any re-opening of the waste and recycling centres would need to be carefully planned but the County council should be announcing their plans now. Social distancing and highway issues would need consideration. Probably a booking system with timed slots would be needed, but a reduced service at the tip sites would be much better than the current complete closure.
Government guidance is that councils should try to keep Household Waste and Recycling Centres open.
We, the undersigned, call on Lancashire County Council to announce a timetable for the controlled re-opening of the household waste "tips" in the county.
