New even harsher plans have been proposed for the Employment and Support Allowance in the UK. These will cause considerably more hardship for already vulnerable and disabled claimants. For more details go to http://www.benefitsandwork.co.uk.

We successfully fought to stop the termination of the Disability Living Allowance and we can also fight to stop these new ESA proposals. This petition is part of the campaign to prevent these new proposals from passing into law.

We the undersigned, the disabled and their supporters, strongly urge a revision of the new proposed plans for ‘simplifying’ the work capability assessment drawn up by a Department for Work and Pensions working group for the Employment and Support Allowance.

Many of these new proposals would create considerably more hardship for already vulnerable and disabled claimants. We ask for this review to be considered most urgently before the proposals are actually passed into law.

It is also of concern to us that in final review before the proposals were approved by the secretary of state two of the individual attendees were employed by Atos Origin Medical Services. Atos is the company that carries out benefits medicals on behalf of the DWP in return for hundreds of millions of pounds of taxpayers money. It is of concern that those who might gain a commercial advantage from the implementation of the new proposals were included in the final review of them.

We ask that both our concerns and requests for a review of the proposals receive your urgent attention.
