Walton Animal Ordinance 90.20 and 90.21, which defines "Pit Bull" and prohibits ownership, location, maintenance, keeping, harboring or use of Pit Bull Terriers in the City of Walton based on such dogs being inherently dangerous and a public nuisance.

The definition of Pit Bulls is based on AKC and UKC physical description, but fails to take into account the same organizations temperament standards. Pit Bull type dogs are NOT to be Human Aggressive and signs of aggression are a fault.

There are more than 25 different breeds that have the “predominant physical characteristics of the dogs commonly referred to as ‘Pit Bulls’. According to the National Canine Research Council, “In recent years, scientists have established that visual identification of dogs of unknown origin is extremely unreliable.

Based on the inherent inability to properly determine a 'Pit Bull' based on physical attributes Walton City Ordinance 90.20 is erroneous at its foundation. Furthermore, classifying ‘Pit Bulls’ as inherently vicious and dangerous is inaccurate since a love and respect for Humans was specifically bred into the pit bull lines to ensure ease of handling when used in bull pits and as ‘fighting’ dogs.

Due to the factually flawed foundation on which City of Walton Ordinance 90.20 and 90.21 where written, this legislation which prohibits Pit Bull ownership within Walton City Limits, should be repealed.
