Nearly 40 Greenpeace activists including Bruce Cox, Executive Director of Greenpeace have been arrested for peacefully protesting the destruction of the Alberta tar sands.

Those arrested face fines and jail time for their peaceful acts of protest. Despite their plight, these heroes maintain their position and intend fully to return to the fight once they are able. Alberta's premier has labled these people as terrorists, having decided to punish them to the full extent of the law.

To the attention of Ed Stelmach, Premier of Alberta:

We, the undersigned, respectfully request that Bruce Cox and all of the other Greenpeace Activists unjustly arrested in the Alberta tar sands protest be released and cleared of all charges, fines and legal fees relating to this case.

Their arrest is a huge blemish on Canada's reputation as a democratic society. Their passionate actions are those that have caused this great country to grow and flourish. Without the right to peaceful protest, this nation would be an unruly mess.

These people have simply expressed their right to freedom of speech. These actions do not make them terrorists or criminals. If anything, these actions show them to be caring, responsible citizens after whom we should all strive to model ourselves.

These individuals are right in their protests. Harvesting from the tar sands only stands to send us spiraling further into our current global warming crisis. None of us can afford for this to happen.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
