Petition Tag - oil
1. Stop Wall Street Speculation on Commodities
Wall Street speculators drive up the price of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel by buying and selling oil with no intention of ever using it. Prevent the manipulation of energy markets and return prices to reasonable levels.
Request the Federal Government to adopt laws on commodity speculation by requiring any commodity purchased, to be consumed by the purchaser or require that every commodity for sale on the exchange be backed by an actual asset that can and will be delivered to the purchaser.
2. Move forward with the Canadian pipeline
The U.S. State Department’s decision to delay its review of TransCanada Corp.’s $7-billion Keystone XL pipeline until after next year’s presidential election may doom the project and accelerate Canada’s efforts to ship crude to China.
This project would provide thousands and thousands of jobs in the United States, a lot of unionized, well-paying jobs.
This delay, may doom the project. The 1,661-mile pipeline would deliver 700,000 barrels a day of crude from Alberta’s oil sands to the Gulf of Mexico, more than half of all the oil coming from Saudi Arabia.
3. THE PEOPLES' POCKETS ARE EMPTY ! A GAS PRICE FREEZE NOW!
We understand that there is money to be made and you can make it in the Oil Business ! But the people that buy are so poor that they can barely feed there families or even heat or keep there homes these days let alone pay there medical bills God for bid they have any.
The unemployment rate is growing and not getting much better ! And yet they keep raising the price of Gas it keeps going up and UP! It has to stop some ware until the economy comes back online again We need a Freeze on Gas PRICING NOW! Help AMERICA HELP ITS SELF NOW ! This one act that could get most of the people back in the game again! When Americans have to ask them selves do I buy food ? Do I pay my bills (heat, water house payment? or do I feed my gas tank?
We have a BIG problem specially when you can not even plan on what it might cost as the price changes day to day and some how that does not work for most Americans budgets. So Please Hold the gas price at ( $2.00 ) a gallon for at least 6 months to a year. America dose not need food Stamps nor welfare or even a bail out just a small solution that could make the change we all need! And let the Americans see the light again!
4. Demand the labeling of palm oil in cosmetic products
The Sumatran orangutan society, have been very successful in campaigning to get palm oil labeled in all products who use it. They have recently won their clear labels, not forests campaign and it is now compulsory for all food products containing palm oil to be labeled in Europe and the UK. However this does not cover all products...cosmetics are not included in this campaign but i believe they should be.
The palm oil industry is responsible for destroying thousands of acres of deforestation in other countries. Currently 300 football fields are destroyed in south east Asia every hour for palm oil. And it's not just the vegetation that is being affected! The animals that rely on the forest (such as orangutans) are affected, many orangutans have no place to go when the forest is destroyed. 20 years ago their were more than 300,000 Bornean orangutans in the wild, now their are less than 45,000 in the wild. Orangutans only give birth once in 6 - 10 years therefore it is hard for them to breed as much as they are dying out due to deforestation.
Please go to http://www.wspa.org.uk/wspaswork/orangutans/ for more information on orangutans.
But worst of all the industry does not even label palm oil! Most palm oil is labeled as vegetable oil, therefore many people are unaware that it is in their shopping products. This is taking away our freedom to know what exactly goes into our cosmetics, it takes away are choice of whether or not to use palm oil! This is wrong, they should label palm oil and deliberately point out if it is palm oil free!
5. Demand palm oil be labeled!
Today palm oil is used in lots of shopping products, some of which includes pears soap, pringles, most peanut butters, clover, ginsters, haribo, Good fellas pizza, warburtons and much more. Unfortunately I wouldn't be mentioning this if it didn't have such an affect on the environment.

6. Stop Fracking the Blackfeet
(**IMPORTANT NOTE** This petition is for NON-Blackfeet people who wish to support tribal members opposed to fracking within the Blackfeet Nation. IF YOU ARE A MEMBER OF THE BLACKFEET TRIBE, GO HERE.)
We, the undersigned, stand in solidarity with members of Blackfeet Nation who are opposed to hydro-fracturing on the Blackfeet Reservation until a referendum is held. We are testifying that we hold in common the following two positions:
7. Northern Gateway Proposal; NO PIPELINE THROUGH PARADISE
Canada's West is one of the most beautiful and sacred places left on this planet. Building a pipeline through the Rockies and the Great Bear Rainforest is a disaster waiting to happen.
Too much risk comes with this proposal. Too easy to tilt the scale into irreversible damage. Now is the time to convert our economy with sustainable, renewable energy and jobs that truly give us a sense of stewardship to the land. Please do not build the Northern Gateway pipeline.
8. Use domestic resources; Drill our own US Oil
Currently gas prices are on a rising continuum. During this economical hardship, consumers are struggling to pay for the gas that gets them to their job. A lot of those same consumers are living paycheck to paycheck and barely able to pay their basic living expenses.
With the extreme rise in gas prices, living expenses that are already a struggle to maintain, are becoming almost impossible. The United States has enough of our own resources for oil that if we were to start drilling, would last our country CENTURIES! The use of our own resources would help the economy and help the people in OUR country.
Our president just loaned Brazil 2 Billion dollars for an underwater drilling project in their country. That 2 Billion could have been reserved by using our resources; this is why our government spending is so insanely high- we are paying millions of dollars to foreign countries when we could save millions by using our own products; in turn the consumers will save!
9. Save Ningaloo Reef from Shell
Energy giant Shell has applied for federal government approval for 60 days' exploration drilling in an area about 50km west of the Ningaloo marine park's boundary.
Recently, we have seen failures of oil exploration and its devastation on the environment.
Australia is not short of cash and needn't allow every Tom, Dick and Harry corporation to abuse its fragile nature by moving in and capitalising on the country's natural resources.
Let's take care of the beautiful environment we have been blessed with and say no to oil exploration anywhere near Ningaloo Reef.
10. Open the National Oil Reserve
If we open our oil reserves the price for gas oil and diesel fuel will go down tremendously. The price of oil that we get from over seas is 102 dollars a barrel.
We have stock piles of oil right here in our own country and our president wont turn them on to save the economy which will give people more jobs and bring the economy up.
Also oil is used for our electric companies so we have electric which will go down also. The diesel that truck drivers use will lower the cost for the stores for their products. Which bring more jobs opening up and people that own their own companies like grocery store and auto shops and tow companies will lower their cost.
Gas prices will go down and the amount gas stations pay the companies and drivers will be less. So who is with me on opening our oil reserve to save gas and oil prices.
During the past year the public of the UK have been hit by soaring Fuel prices, that has seen Fuel Prices at the Pump go from 80p per litre to in some place over £1.38 per litre.
In April a further 1p per litre is to be added to Fuel costs by the current government.
Cost per litre of crude oil extraction: 8p
Cost per litre of refining: 2p
Cost per litre to transport to UK: 2p
Cost per litre to transport to pumps: 5p
UK TAX @ 70%: 80-90p!
Since the VAT increase the prices in some places of the UK have hit £1.38 per litre.
Enough is Enough! Tell the UK government to Reduce Fuel tax Now and introduce a regulator to ensure it never reachs ridiculous prices again!
12. Say NO to drilling in Alaska's Prudhoe Bay
Save Canada from a situation, similar to that in the Gulf of Mexico.
13. John Mica, End the BP Backdoor Bailout
BP, which is supposed to be paying for the cleanup in the Gulf, announced last week that it plans on writing off $10 billion in expenses related to the clean-up on its U.S. taxes, shifting financial responsibility for the clean-up to us, the taxpayers. In short, BP plans on creating a taxpayer funded backdoor bailout for themselves.
The idea that BP has decided to engage in a sleight of hand, backdoor bailout to abscond with our tax dollars is nauseating. Taxpayers are not responsible for the disaster in the gulf, and we shouldn’t have to pay the bill either.
14. Ban BP
All are aware of the rampant and unmitigated devastation caused by the Deepwater Horizon/British Petroleum oil rig explosion that killed 11 workers and started the largest environmental disaster in United States history.
Clean up efforts are projected to last many years. The 1990 Oil Pollution Act limits BP’s liability, for economic damages, to only $75 million dollars. Currently, BP has contracts with the federal government that amount to over $9 billion dollars. It is imperative to end taxpayer and government support to this company.
We propose that the Environmental Protection Agency ban British Petroleum from receiving any future contracts with the federal government using the debarment process under the Clean Water Act. They should no longer profit from our government and our people.
On April 20th, 2010, an oil rig called the Deepwater Horizon exploded in the waters off of Lousiana, killing 11 people and injuring 17 others. Oil seeped into our oceans, and has yet to come to an end.
Though BP placed a cap on the well, it is not capturing all of the oil that is flowing. 597 birds to date have been found dead due to the oil spill and the numbers are rising. Even dolphins, sharks, fish, and turtles are suffering from this tragic event.
This petition is meant to tell BP that they are held responsible for what has happened and no matter where the fault lies, it happened on their watch.
We are already facing enough of a crisis with global warming and this has added to it. Please BP, take care of the problem, stop the flow of oil, then help our oceans, our marine life, the gulf, and EVERYONE impacted to recover.
16. Support the relief and help efforts for the Gulf Oil spill
I want relief for the Gulf Oil Spill as it is killing our wildlife and hurting our local fishermen and their families.
The oil spill is currently not under control.
It makes me mad that relief efforts can be made to Haiti and other countries so quick when right here in our own country our Wildlife is currently dying due to this Oil spill currently in the Gulf of Mexico.
17. Declare the Gulf Region a Disaster Area!!
British Petroleum Oil Company, or BP had an oil rig explode off the coast of Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico which led to a huge oil spill that is still currently flowing as of the date of this petition.
President Obama needs to declare the region a disaster area and bring aid to animals and tourism in the area, as well as make sure that the clean up begins NOW!!!
Go after BP Mr. Obama!
18. Say NO! to Offshore Oil Exploration/Extraction in Belize
In response to the signing and intention to start Offshore Oil Exploration and Harvesting in Belize, the Government has chosen to embark on large scale agreements with international Oil Companies to start Offshore Exploration off the Coast of Belize.
Instead of steering toward more sustainable and environmentally friendly alternatives, they are advocating tapping into our strategic natural resources and protective areas, a measure that not only endangers the life forms around said areas but steals the future from our children and provides only a very short term benefit for our country and the companies that will be harvesting the oil.
The Government demeans our system with claims of progress and practicing political maneuvers that work behind closed doors instead of cooperating with the Conservation groups in Belize and abroad.

Keep an eye on the spill here: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2010/05/01/us/20100501-oil-spill-tracker.html?ref=us
19. Drilling for Oil in The Gulf Must STOP
As you are all aware BP recently had a major disaster that has caused millions of tonnes of oil to spill into the Gulf and this is destroying everything it engulfs.
BP also stated before this horrendous incident that this type of accident could never happen.
So why then did it happen?
20. BP's president should resign
The Gulf spill has been occurring over too long a period with only failed attempts to control the massive leak.
There was a leaky valve that was known to have existed for years on the well. Why wasn't that repaired?
21. Cancelar el Premio UNESCO-Obiang Nguema Mbasogo
EG Justice Necesita Tu Ayuda.
22. STOP the UNESCO-Obiang International Prize for the Life Sciences
EG Justice Needs Your Help. Sign the petition now to STOP the UNESCO-Obiang International Prize for the Life Sciences.
In 2008, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) created the UNESCO-Obiang International Prize for the Life Sciences, named for and financed by the autocratic and abusive president of the oil-rich West African country of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.
The prize is said to recognize “scientific achievements that improve the quality of human life.” Meanwhile, the quality of life in Equatorial Guinea today remains abysmal. In spite of having attained the highest GDP per capita in Sub-Saharan Africa, 60 percent of Equatoguineans live on less than $1 a day in conditions comparable to Haiti or Chad. President Obiang has neglected to invest available resources in basic social services, resulting in declining primary school attendance, poor health indicators, and needless poverty.
The UNESCO Obiang Prize is a cynical ploy to co-opt the worthy name and reputation of UNESCO to enhance the image of a notorious dictatorship. The prize amounts to international approval for this kleptocratic and abusive regime and it undermines UNESCO’s mission to promote education, science, culture, and human rights.
You can help, by signing this petition to UNESCO!
Let’s send a message to UNESCO that corruption and abuse should not be rewarded and that funds used to create this prize should be reinvested in the people of Equatorial Guinea.
23. Let Greenpeace Activists Go!
Nearly 40 Greenpeace activists including Bruce Cox, Executive Director of Greenpeace have been arrested for peacefully protesting the destruction of the Alberta tar sands.
Those arrested face fines and jail time for their peaceful acts of protest. Despite their plight, these heroes maintain their position and intend fully to return to the fight once they are able. Alberta's premier has labled these people as terrorists, having decided to punish them to the full extent of the law.
Thank you for your support,
Jenny Smith,
Environmental Technician.

Auckland Zoo is asking the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) to label palm oil on all food products, and we'd love you to join us!
The growth of oil palm plantations to produce palm oil in South East Asia is destroying rainforest habitat and driving the orangutan, Sumatran tiger, Asian elephant, Asian rhino and other rainforest species to extinction.
Palm oil is now in one in 10 supermarket products, but on most of these products, it's not labelled.
We all have the right to make informed choices about what food products we buy, and to not buy foods that destroy rainforest habitat and drive wildlife to extinction.
Please sign our 'Don't Palm Us Off' petition by clicking here or pick up a postcard at the zoo.
Tell FSANZ don't palm us off.
Every year, 12 August is marked as an international Caspian Sea Day, the day of coming into effect of the Framework Convention on the Caspian Sea Maritime Environment Protection (the Teheran Convention) which regrettably remains a declaratory document.
26. Stop Arnott's Use of Deadly Palm Oil
The Palm Oil industry is the greatest threat to Orangutan's in the wild. On average, it costs the lives of about 50 orangutans per week. This means that more than 2,600 Orangutans die every single year simply so that we can enjoy products such as TimTams, Pringles and many more
In the time that it takes you to read and sign this petition, another Orangutan may have died as a consequence of the savage Palm-Oil companies drive to get rich, regardless of the environmental consequences.
Orangutans share 98% of our DNA, and yet we're killing them off as if they are nothing more than garbage. You can help put an end to this mindless murder now by signing this petition. YOU can make a difference.
27. Tell Congress to Support Domestic Energy Production (1)
Dear Representative,
As landowners, mineral owners, oil & gas professionals, and concerned citizens, we have much at stake in this nation's domestic energy policy. Our region and its people are working hard to fuel our nation's energy independence. However, with our energy sector suffering through a financially challenging period, we ask that you not "kick" our industry while it is down.
As you consider the budget for the fiscal year 2010, we ask that you reject any policy or legislation that would hamper the well being of our domestic energy industry. Collectively, we are concerned with the following proposals in President Obama’s 2010 budget proposal;
- The elimination of tax mechanisms crucial to capital formation for drilling;
- The repeal of the manufacturers' tax deduction for the percentage depletion allowance;
- The repeal of the enhanced oil recovery credit;
- An imposed excise tax on Gulf of Mexico production;
- An increase in the geological and geophysical amortization period;
- Charges to oil and gas producers for user fees and processing permits to allow drilling on federal lands; and
- The reinstatement of the Superfund tax on refiners and petrochemical manufacturers that would bring into government coffers, a total $17.2 billion from 2011-19.
As Congress debates the 2010 budget, please know that the legislation you pass will affect the millions of citizens working to make our nation’s energy independence a reality. Thank you for your consideration.

29. Back The Venus Project Backed By The Zeitgeist Community
My belief is that the society that we currently live in is clearly failing. The solutions that have been brought are not correcting the problem but just putting it among the next generation to bear suffer with, and solve.
We as a society must drive for the success of the Venus project which is backed by the zeitgeist community as well as the best possible solution to the environmental problems as well as an alternate government rather then democracy.
30. Congress here's your last chance or your fired
Congress has held out on making us energy independent, and we are now spending 700 billion dollars a year to countries that do not even care for our values for energy.
It is now time that our elected officals represent our people and our intrest and immediatly make us energy independent instead of us continuing to send these Billions of dollars to those terriest states.
