Description/History:

After the Tiananmen Square Massacre in 1989 the European Union Parliament adopted a resolution banning weapons sales to China. Now France and Germany suggest lifting the ban.

We strongly oppose this as human rights in China continue to deteriorate and China already has over 500 ballistic missiles aimed at Taiwan. Furthermore, lifting the ban would directly endanger Taiwan, lead to a regional arms race and destabilize global peace and stability.
Petition:
To the European Union Parliament:

We, the undersigned, strongly disagree with any suggestion that the current ban on the sale of dangerous weapons by the European Union be lifted as human rights in China continue to deteriorate.

China already has over 500 ballistic missiles aimed at Taiwan. Lifting the ban would directly endanger the 23 million people of Taiwan, a free and democratic sovereign nation. Furthermore, it would lead to an arms race across the Taiwan Strait, destabilize the region and jeopardize global peace and stability.

Therefore, we respectfully request that the European Union Parliament support human rights in China by maintaining and enforcing the current ban of dangerous weapons sales to China and seek assurance from Beijing that it will not use force against Taiwan to resolve cross-Strait issues.
