Λόγω της παρούσας οικονομικής κατάστασης στην Ελλάδα υπάρχει μεγάλη πίεση από τον ιδιωτικό τομέα μαζικής εστίασης προς την Περιφέρεια Κρήτης για να υιοθετίσει και να προβάλλει μιας «ήπιας μορφής» διατροφικού προτύπου της Κρητικής Διατροφής ώστε να είναι «ευχρηστο».
Due to present economical situation in Greece, there is a great pressure from the private sector of food service towards the Prefecture of Crete Island to adopt and promote a “liberal version” of the Cretan Diet dietary model so it can be easily “utilizable”.

Εμείς οι συνυπογράφοντες, θεωρούμε ότι το επίσημο διατροφικό πρότυπο της Κρητικής Διατροφής, το οποίο επεξεργάζονται οι υπηρεσίες σας ώστε να αποτελέσει γνώμονα για την κρητική κουζίνα επαγγελματικής εστίασης, θα πρέπει να προβλέπει και να προωθεί την κατά προτεραιότητα χρήση τοπικών και κατά προτίμηση πιστοποιημένων βιολογικών τροφίμων.
Αν η κατεύθυνση αυτή παραληφθεί, θα έχει χάσει μια ιστορική ευκαιρία η Κρήτη να αναδείξει την πραγματική αξία της διατροφής της, προσφέροντας υγιεινή τροφή για όλους, υποστηρίζοντας τον Κρητικό παραγωγό και κατευθύνοντας τον προς μια αειφόρο παραγωγή, διαφυλάττοντας το περιβάλλον και εξασφαλίζοντας αυτάρκεια για το μέλλον.

We, the undersigned, members of the international community, strongly believe that, the official Cretan Diet dietary model, which is currently being formulated by your office and is intended to become the official guideline for the professional food-service, must include and promote as its first priority the use of local and, as its strong preference, certified organic food products.
If this direction is omitted, Crete will have missed a historic opportunity to bring out the true value of its diet, offering healthy food for all, supporting the Cretan farmer and at the same time directing him towards a sustainable way of farming that protects the environment and ensuring self-sufficiency for the future.
