Xcel Energy and the South Dakota Utilities Commision is distributing a credit to South Dakota Xcel Energy customers that were and currently residing in South Dakota and has had Xcel energy services from April 2017 to May 2018 to current. Xcel Energy made a stipulation saying if an Xcel customer moved before July 25th, 2018 they would not be eligible for the credit to their account, even if they still currently reside in South Dakota and utilize their energy services. They added this to the criteria after they already started distributing credits to their customers.

We the undersigned, call on Xcel Energy and the South Dakota Utilities Commision to revise how the distribution of the tax reform credit is being carried out, which all South Dakota residents if eligible be allotted their fair portion of the tax reform credit. Xcel Energy had an automated message on their 1-800 number discussing the tax reform credit and who would be eligible to receive it. It clearly stated that you must be a current Xcel Energy customer and have had their services from April 2017 through May 2018. They then revised the previous critieria and added to it after they had already began distributing these credits to customers and was made effective August 24th, 2018 that the distribution of these funds would be distributed as follows: “If you are a current Xcel Energy customer and had services with us from April 2017 through May 2018 and haven’t moved before July 25th, 2018 you would be eligible to receive a portion of the tax reform credit.” We as consumers find this to be highly discouraging in the mere fact we’re now ineligible because we moved but still reside in South Dakota and continue to utilize Xcel Energy’s services for our electric/heating/cooling needs. We the people would like for this to be reviewed. We feel deceived and betrayed by our service provider; Xcel Energy by denying us this credit even when we were and continue to be eligible on the dates they had previously mentioned up until they revised it and added the stipulation that you couldn’t have moved before July 25th, 2018. We feel as a consumer we are not valued by Xcel Energy and we feel we’re equally just as deserving of our portion of this tax reform credit if we were previously eligible until they made additional stipulations in conjunction to their previously released critieria. What we would like from Xcel Energy and South Dakota Utilities commission to do is to include those who were eligible to be included in on the distribution of the tax reform credit regardless if we had moved or not but still continue to reside in South Dakota and continue to use Xcel Energy as our service provider.
