We propose the following:
· 2 or 3? – 15 minute spaces beginning at newly located Loading Zone at 87 Water Street . These spaces have exited for 75+ years for customers and without any notification to Abutting Business Owners or Input to discuss this change – Someone suggested to the Traffic Advisory Board to remove these spaces. This is unacceptable when you have made substantial investments into owning and operating these businesses that had available parking when purchased and 75 + years for customers and then they are taken away for no logical reason.
· Change Loading Zone Hours from 8 am – 4 pm Mon – Fri not 6am – 6 pm
This is plenty of time for all Businesses to receive any Loads and allows for Business Owners to conduct their business without being ticketed i.e.: Load daily trash early in am, unload articles necessary for business on daily basis, and receive visits from salespeople/ vendors in early hours. There are very few deliveries before 8 am and 99% are completed by 4 pm.
· Change Loading Zone Hours to Week Days Only and Open up Loading Zone on Weekends to be available for 15 Minute or 2 Hour Parking between 8 – 4 pm. Woods Hole needs any and all parking and there are very few, if any deliveries from Vendors on Weekends. It makes no sense to leave this space unused. This is 125 feet long of unused space. Not Logical.
· Correct newly striped 15 minute Parking Space In front of Liberty House. A new 15 minute space was placed on Water Street in front of Liberty House Clothing (to possibly make up for stripping the parking from 87 Water Street) but the space begins in a whole new spot and vehicles are not able to utilize correctly because they cant fit in or its too difficult to beck into. There is 12 feet available on the Town property to begin the space and create a space that works. On a daily basis this 12 feet that hangs in limbo is used and blocked by the same vehicles. If this 15 minute space is to stay it needs to start at the beginning of the Town property and end proportionately. We may be able to acquire another metered space this way.
· Correct any and all other newly striped 15 minute or metered spaces to be either equal in size or at least be able to handle the size of all vehicles so that visitors and locals are not receiving unfriendly tickets because they are over or on the parking lines.
We, the undersigned, support the Woods Hole Market in regaining parking spaces in front of 87 Water Street, as it has been for the last 75+ years. We also support the necessary changes to the other new parking issues.
Due to the nature of the adjacent seasonal businesses and The Woods Hole Markets’ In and Out Business, we urge the Traffic Advisory Committee and any other governing Boards to make the necessary changes immediately, so the Woods Hole Market and others can properly conduct their Seasonal and Year Round businesses.
There has never been any issue in regards to the Loading Zone by the abutting businesses and any available space for parking should be allowed so that locals and others can feel welcome to the Village of Woods Hole.
Small business is the backbone of Cape Cod and should be accommodated with open arms. To limit small business is to put them out of business especially in such a seasonal area that already has such limited parking space available.
There is absolutely no reason to restrict or remove parking that has been in place for 75+ years, but there are many logical reasons why it is necessary.
