1435 Randall Ave originally hosted a municipal water tower. A number of years ago the water tower was dismantled and the land left empty.
The City of Ottawa recently put the land up for sale with no guarantee that its development would be compatible with the neighbourhood.
Concerned neighbours in adjacent houses wish to allow the broader neighbourhood to express their concerns in ensuring a transparent and open discussion on the future use of this land.
The undersigned homeowners of Alta Vista are concerned with the ambiguity surrounding the sale of the land at 1435 Randall Avenue, the site for the since dismantled water tower.
It is incumbent on the City of Ottawa to communicate a comprehensive and transparent plan for this property, which is presently zoned as l1: Minor Institutional. This permits a range of community uses, institutional accommodation and emergency services whose impact on surrounding residences is minimized and compatible with the neighbourhood.
It is the wish of the undersigned Alta Vista homeowners that the present low density character of the neighbourhood is maintained, and any institutional or residential use of the land takes into consideration the restricted nature of both Randall and Braeside avenues with regards to increased traffic and preserves the present residential setting of single family dwellings. Any changes to the zoning would therefore be restricted to R1: Residential First Density Zoning.
It is incumbent upon the City of Ottawa and Jean Cloutier, Councillor for the ward of Alta Vista, to keep the undersigned concerned citizens in particular, and the Alta Vista community in general, aware of any actions taken to rezone this land to residential, or when closure takes place on the sale of 1435 Randall, and of any variances applied for on this land through this committee and through the Alta Vista Community Association.
