Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease that affects humans and animals. It is caused by bacteria of the genus Leptospira. In humans, it can cause a wide range of symptoms, some of which may be mistaken for other diseases. Some infected persons, however, may have no symptoms at all.

Without treatment, Leptospirosis can lead to kidney damage, meningitis (inflammation of the membrane around the brain and spinal cord), liver failure, respiratory distress, and even death. Leptospirosis infection among urban children appears to be increasing.

No human vaccine is available in Canada. The bacteria that causes leptospirosis are spread through the urine of infected animals, particularly rats. With higher concentrations of rats, the risk of Leptospirosis becomes higher. First of all lets get a rat testing program to see how many rats are carrying this deadly disease. In 2015 and 2016 many dogs have been diagnosed with Leptospirosis.

We are concerned with the over population of rats in Windsor Ont., and the possible
danger of Leptospirosis to our pets and children. Many dogs have died already. We can not afford to wait until a human death occurs.

2018 is coming soon and this will be an election issue!
