Palm oil is literally everywhere, in our cosmetics, cleaning products and fuel, it is also all the rage in the snack food industry, since it is trans fat-free and therefore seen as a healthier replacement.

To this present day, the precious Indonesian rainforest is still getting destroyed to make way for palm oil plantations. The clearing of these forests is a major factor in global warming, cutting down and wide scale illegal burning of the trees releases large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. And if not properly replaced by the palm oil plantations, there are no rainforests to help maintain water resources that minimizes flooding and foil depletion. On top of that, the rainforest in Indonesia is home to over one hundred thousand Orangutans which have experienced sharp population declines due to deforestation.

We have also partnered with One Tree Planted, a 501C3 Non-profit based in Vermont, to plant a tree with every Paperlust order made. Paperlust has been focused on restoring forests in the Kalimentan region in Borneo, Indonesia around the Tanjung Puting National Park which are home to the largest orangutan population in the world.

In this petition, Paperlust is calling on the palm oil industry to be equally as responsible in their sourcing and stop destroying the Orangutan's one and only home.
