According to UNICEF, 21% of Zimbabwean children are orphans – the highest proportion in the world. At the same time Zimbabwe has one of the lowest GDPs, ranked 176 out of 180 countries by the IMF in 2008 and estimated at just $200.
Furthermore, Zimbabwe is recovering from internal conflict that still prevents much aid from reaching it, particularly in the rural areas (lowest ODA for Basic life skills for youth and adults, primary education and early childhood education in Africa - DAC CRS 2007 and UNICEF 2007 data).

We want you to commit some of our diamond revenues toward poverty alleviation.
Reports we have seen recently indicate that we can now trade our diamonds with the rest of the world and some have even suggested that we have 25% of the world's resources.
Whether the figures stand true or not we want to implore your office to remember the poor in our midst particularly HIV/Aids orphans. We appreciate there are many competing priorities for these resources but our nation can not continue to rely on donors to take care of what is our responsibility especially when God has blessed us with such a precious resource.
We the undersigned want you Minister, is to make a public statement committing some of this wealth toward assisting those less fortunate in our nation. Please live up to your electoral promises and deliver for the sake of the orphans.
