The Waterworks Road transit lane or T2 lane is important for our local bus services and ensures that our community has a viable public transport option.

However, the three hours of operation of the T2 lane in the evenings from 4pm, all the way through to 7pm, is one hour too long. In the mornings the T2 lane operates for two hours only (7-9am). We do not require more hours in the evening than we have in the morning for our T2 lane to work effectively. By 6pm the T2 lane can be empty of vehicles for much of the time.

As a result, outbound traffic is often and unnecessarily bottle-necked after 6pm by motorists caught behind vehicles turning right on Waterworks Road. This impacts many intersections through Ashgrove and The Gap.

By freeing up the T2 lane between 6pm to 7pm, these traffic bottlenecks can be more easily managed by motorists free to use both lanes safely. This is a common sense approach that Brisbane City Council can take to support our local road network.

This petition therefore calls on the Brisbane City Council to undertake a 12 month trial to evaluate the impact of the change from 4-7pm to 4-6pm for our T2 lane on Waterworks Road.

We the undersigned call on Brisbane City Council to better target the Waterworks Road T2 lane hours of operations in the evenings.

We request Brisbane City Council do this by reducing the T2 hours of operation by one hour from 4-7pm to 4-6pm.

We request Brisbane City Council commence a 12 month trial of these refined T2 hours of operation to better support our local road network.
