We, as the United States of America, should lower the voting age to 16. Younger children should be able to vote for their rights as well as 18-year-olds.

Earlier in the 1920’s women had to fight for their rights to vote. Now it is the children’s turn.

According to http://youthrights.org/vote10.php and the book “How to Make a Difference-One Day at a Time: 365 Ways to Change the World” by Michael Norton, the top ten reasons for young people to have the rights to vote are:

1. Young people suffer a double standard of having responsibilities, but not rights!

2. Youth pay taxes, live under our laws, they should have the vote.

3. Politicians will represent their interests if youth can vote.

4. Youth have a unique perspective, they'll never have those experiences again.

5. Lowering the Voting Age will increase voter turnout.

6. If we let stupid adults vote, why not let smart youth vote?

7. Youth will vote well.

8. There are no wrong votes.

9. 16 is a better age to introduce voting than 18; 16 year olds are stationary.

10. Lowering the voting age will provide an intrinsic benefit to the lives of youth.
