When UW Place residence community was built in 1970, it was known as University of Waterloo Married Student Apartments. At that time, there was a need for child care facilities as the residence community once gave married students and families priority.

However, times have changed, to the point that in recent years almost all of the two-, three-, and four-bedroom apartments have been rented by groups of single students.

Due to the complete reverse in the UW Place demographic, the need for child care facilities by residents is obsolete.

We, the undersigned UW Place residents, are requesting that the Board of Housing and Residence of the University of Waterloo expand the current community center in Beck Hall to accommodate the growing needs of residents in UW Place Community.

The Multi-Purpose Facility currently built in Beck Hall does not meet the community’s needs.

The reasons for our request are the following:

• The University of Waterloo owns the facility currently occupied by Paintin' Place Cooperative Daycare Inc.

• Paintin' Place Cooperative Daycare Inc. does not serve the community's needs, as almost all undergraduate students who reside in UW Place do not have dependents.

• Money was approved by the Board of Housing and Residence to renovate the facility.

• There is an increasing frequency in the use and waiting time for use of facilities and equipment.

• There is a demand for physical activities facilities and food services.

We respectfully ask that you renovate and reopen Paintin' Place Cooperative Daycare Inc. on 106 Seagram Drive as a UW Place Community Center given the growing needs of this community. Thank you for your consideration.
