Protect families from unintended domestic violence charges

Hi im petitioning against the New Mexico State Law that does not let women or the victim have say in an uninteded domestic violence case. There is no help for us at all because the state says its out of our hands, we cannot dismiss the charges. We should have a say in whether it was just a simple argument to a slight push and not being beat by a bat and results in heading to the hospital.

The courts, prosecutors, judges, and police enforcement, should look at what's best for the families not themselves and winning a case. My husband and I had a simple argument that led to me deciding to leave with my son for a break and he said no to taking my son with me because it was midnight. In being mad all i heard was i couldnt take my son so i called the police to be able to leave with my son. During the argument he grabbed me and to me it seemed like a slight push but he tried to calm me down not hurt me. In the end the police took him to jail and charged him with battery and neglect to our child because he was in my arms. Now we have court and trials over something simple that happens in all families we all have our bad times.

The state has put alot of stress on our family there's a no contact order regardless if there were no charges pressed or restraining order. I know this has happened to more than one family here in NM and in the US. Please help there are families that are suffering consequences that are just not the case.

We are not all being beat down emotionally mentally or physically. WE are not all being sent to the hospital and are not afraid of our husbands. Because the state pressed these charges our insurance will go up, if we move we might not be able to find an apartment and it will be hard for my husband to find a job later in life becuase of these criminal charges.
