Trivialization of rape

As at 2015, there has been only 18 convictions in Nigeria's legal history. We have cases of secondary school males trying to rape a girl's openly. The sad part of it is, this cases never see the light of day. The most tragic of this issue is that of the case of Mike Okiro, a former inspector general of police in Nigeria and Omoyele Sowore. Omoyele Sowore is a powerful journalist and Mr. Mike Okiro has alleged that he was once arrested for rape but he jumped bail. Omoyele Sowore is yet to come out to deny and the Nigerian police has failed to take the issue up. This goes a long way to show how institutions and persons in Nigeria trivialize rape actions and accusations.
