The Toyota Tacoma has had a lot of issues with the rear carrier and issued a repair notice for the open carrier but not the lockers.
Looking around I have found a lot of owners like myself with the locker rear end that the whine is there or, like myself, the unit failed during or just after warranty. See TSB 0057-13. Also search on Toyota Tacoma whine.
Due to the number of Tacomas that are impacted by the whine/failure of the carrier I respectfully request that Toyota live up to its reputation as a world class leader in customer care and provide a repair for this problem for all impacted Tacoma owners.
