This is a petition to demonstrate against the undemocratic decision by Hampshire County Council to name the new school in our town, the 'David Kirk Academy'. Mr Kirk was a Councillor in Andover and has no connection with Aldershot.
Despite this fact, a small group of Councillors in Hampshire have decided that the alternative, and more relevant names suggested by hundreds of people in Aldershot should not even be taken into consideration.
Regardless of Mr Kirk's accomplishments, this petition is about local democracy. This school is in our town and we should be able to make the decision on it's name.
It is unfair that a small group of individuals in Winchester think it is acceptable to ignore the feelings of thousands of local residents.
By signing this petition, you agree that we, as residents of Aldershot, should have the final say on the name of our school and not a small group of Councillors in Winchester.
