Following the March 30-31, 2010 storm on Long Island, parts of Riverhead suffered major flood damage forcing the closing of roads and more than a dozen families to evacuate whose homes were severely damaged and even under water.

Serious long term effects of flooding there and throughout eastern Suffolk will seriously impact the environment, tourism and the economy. Declaration of a major disaster in New York to the Federal Emergency Management Agency was DENIED by Governor Paterson which would have allowed federal aid be given to affected residents and the town itself.

This petition is an appeal to Governor Paterson's decision.

We, the undersigned, call on Governor Paterson to declare the March 2010 flooding in the Town of Riverhead a major disaster in New York to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA); granting federal aid to the victims of this devastation.
