Most governments consider that those of an age lower than the chosen threshold lack the necessary capacity to independently decide how to cast a vote.

We are talking about our youth (ages 12-17) here, the future of our country. Most students learn how the government works in grade 10 and with the knowledge fresh in there mind hold a some what greater knowledge than that of an out of school Canadian citizen. So what does the Charter of Rights and Freedoms say?

“The charter of rights and Freedoms” section 15 states 'that no law will discriminate against age."in section 2 It also says that "EVERY citizen has the right to vote" So why is youth being discriminated for there age when it is there RIGHT to vote?

I believe that section 3 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, “Every Citizen of Canada has the right to vote in an election of members of the House of Commons or of a Legislative Assembly and to be qualified for membership therein,” is not being upheld and with this it is in violation of section 15 of the charter of rights and freedoms.

“Every Individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination and, in particular, without discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability.

“I believe that under certain circumstances, such as passing a test based on the inner workings of parliament, a member of the youth population should have the right to vote just like any other Canadian citizen." if the child wishes not to vote he or she can wait till becoming of age to vote.
