Global Warming is the increase in the average temperature of the earth's near-surface air and oceans in recent decades and its projected continuation. An increase in global temperatures is expected to cause other changes, including sea level rise, increased intensity of extreme weather events, and changes in the amount and pattern of precipitation.
Other effects include changes in agricultural yields, glacier retreat, species extintions, and increases in the ranges of disease vectors.
The Kyoto Protocol to the United Nation Framework Convention on climate change, is an amendment to the stabilization of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropegenic interference with the climate system. In December of 2006, a total of 169 countries and other governmental entities have ratified the agreement representing over 61.6 % of emissions from Annex countries. Notable exceptions include the U.S. and Australia.
Other countries, like India and China, which have ratified the protocol, are not required to reduce carbon emissions under the present agreement. Some of the countries that have signed the Kyoto Protocol, have not entered into force much years later, or at all.
