Twin Cities German Immersion School is a public, non-profit charter school in its thirteenth year of servings students in grades K-8. Because of the strength and success of the program, the school is not seeing the projected attrition among students in the middle school. We have outgrown our current facility and desperately need to upgrade to provide students with more classrooms, staff with more places to work, and special education students with private places to receive their supports. The School Board's Facilities Committee has spent hundreds of hours to come up with a proposal that fits the education needs and property limits while adhering to financial responsibility. The most efficient plan recommends replacing a building that was a former church, now being used as a gymnasium, performance space, and cafeteria. The cost to upgrade aging systems would be fiscally imprudent , taking much-needed funds away from our ability to meet the moral and legal responsibilities to our students' education.. Attempts to make the space useable for current needs have been unsuccessful, and completely restructuring the space for future needs is cost prohibitive.

This petition was organized by concerned members of the TCGIS community and will be presented to the School Board. It is not sponsored by the school administration or authorizer.

We, the undersigned parents, staff, and friends of TCGIS, support the TCGIS Board Facilities Committee's proposal for the facility use project and urge the School Board to approve the proposal without delay to ensure a bright, strong future for the 500+ children and 50+ staff who call TCGIS home.
