The definition of Gastroparesis, "paralysis of the Gastric System". This illness is a painful, debilitating, and life threatening illness that over 5 million in the United States alone are surviving.
Substitute Nutrition in the form of permanent/temp iv lines called picc or central lines, or tubes inserted into the small intestine or stomach are needed to live for the majority who are forced to survive with this devastating illness. Gastroparesis does not allow the body to eat and digest food. Hospitalizations from infections, or from dehydration and malnutrition are continuous. The financial and emotional drain on families is complete devastation, leaving a financial burden on society as well.
Many living with Gastroparesis have to take life one moment at a time, while trying to figure out how to live with a body that will not function. Gastroparesis strips any type of an active life someone can have and puts them in a state of constant survival.
We, the undersigned, call on the House of Representatives for the United States of America, to bring H.R. 2239: Functional Gastrointestinal and Motility Disorders Research Enhancement Act of 2011 to the forefront of importance and Pass.
This Bill will allow Research for a cure to be made mandatory, as well as give those with Gastroparesis the voice and rights to Advocate for themselves, and work with doctors to find a cure for this debilitating, life threatening illness, which affects not only the digestive system, but other major organs as well.
