Save & Support Public Library Petition In Dalkeith, Morewood and St. Andrews. We are happy to report that The Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Library Board at a public meeting held in Williamstown, Ontario voted to rescind the motion of March 10 and restore previous hours and days. Over 40 "Friends 'of the Dalkeith Library were in attendance including North Glengarry Mayor Chris Macdonell. The online petition received 172 signatures.Thank You. Merci. (much appreciated comments.) the paper petition picked up over 400 names. Our presence at the meeting, the petition signatures , along with the excellent media coverage put us over the top. what an outstanding initiative by each of you .thank you for the part you played ..Democracy in action. Where did you learn to read? Chances are a library was involved. The SD&G Counties Library Board(of which Dalkeith, Morewood and St. Andrews west are a part) is reducing the number of days that the Dalkeith , Morewood and St. Andrews west are open. Roughly that's a 43% reduction in usage time. This appears to be a fait accompli with no prior explanation nor prior public consultation- nor advance notice just whammey -take that and live with it Dalkeith! Morewood! St Andrews West!
Let's put the "public" back into save and support public library in Dalkeith, Morewood and St. Andrews west. Something is wrong here especially considering Canadas sesquicentennial coming up in 2017. Small villages and communities were what built this country so why is the SDG counties Library Board not supporting these communities. They should be helping instead of trouncing! The timing is unbelievably horrible.
Let's stand together and move forward to greater progress in these,our communities. . In the meantime sign the petition-in the language of your choice-The comments are very much appreciated. Pass it on to patrons and anyone who has a library memory. Remember the Library Board has a budget of close to if not slightly more(in total) of over 2 million dollars. The population of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry is 76,000. The total number of library patrons in the SDG system reflect a plus or minus 2 per cent of that total.
Our Save & support Public Library goals are as follows:
1.Encourage general public to go to the nearest library and get a library card.
2.Sign the petition.online or paper. I will add paper names soon.
3.Contact your Twp rep asking why they voted for the March 10 motion
4.Contact Board members asking how reduced hours increases circulation
5 plan to attend Board meeting in Williamstown April 14 to support petition presentation. there will be a free bus from Dalkeith.
We need our libraries hours and days open back to the way they were formerly -for Dalkeith thats four days a week. Please support those who do use the library. Please support Public Library in Dalkeith, Morewood & St Andrews West . Someday you might just need the library. It's not just about books any more. The community you support might just be your own.
We, the undersigned, petition the Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry Counties library Board to rescind their vote of march 10, 2016 and to return to the Dalkeith Library, Morewood Library and St Andrews West Library their former "open and operating" days per week.
