Support Lidl Knaresborough

Our current Lidl store on York Road is very popular, however, the store is too small and can no longer keep up with growing customer demands. Therefore, as part of our national property expansion programme, we would like to build a new larger store in Knaresborough, to enhance the customer experience.

You may be aware that the Co-op store on Chain Lane closed in November 2015. Since then, Lidl has acquired the site to build a replacement Lidl supermarket.

The proposals include:
A 1,690 sq m (net sales) Lidl foodstore
154 car parking spaces
The full Lidl high-quality product range at value prices

There will be a significant grassed landscape buffer around the site boundary
with neighbouring properties and we will retain as many trees as possible on the site boundaries.

The store’s delivery area will be covered and when delivery vehicles reverse up to the store, a hood covers the back of the vehicle, connecting it to the store. This means that all delivery activity is inside the store and enclosed, minimising noise for neighbouring residents. It is anticipated, that the store will require 1-2 deliveries per day.

What will happen to our existing store?
Lidl owns our existing site and we are speaking to a number of operators
regarding the future of our current site.

New job opportunities for local people?
The new store will create up to 20 new full and part-time job opportunities in addition to those in the existing store. All staff will transfer to the new store. Lidl was the first major supermarket to pay all its employees the living wage from October 2015.
