Lidl have exchanged contracts to purchase the existing Jaguar and Land Rover showrooms on Banister Road, Southampton. We are now in the process of preparing a planning application and are delighted to be in a position to commence consultation with the local community on Lidl’s proposed plans for a new neighbourhood discount foodstore.

Following a decision by HA Fox Jaguar and Hunters Land Rover to relocate their operation to a site in Swaythling the site has become available for development. The proposed development involves the demolition of Jaguar showroom, the vehicle workshops and car wash. The Land Rover showroom building at the junction of Banister Road will be retained and repurposed for new commercial uses.

Lidl propose the construction of a 2,125m² Lidl foodstore with a sales area of 1,325m². The building will be positioned to the western boundary of the site with a fully glazed shopfront to maximise natural daylight. The proposed store will be in line with Lidl’s new store concept which was formulated with the view of providing the customer with a much improved shopping experience.

The proposed development will provide 129 parking spaces situated to the front and side of the store including disabled spaces and parent and child spaces close to the store entrance. There will also be an area for cycle parking.

Lidl is not a one-stop shop, linked shopping trips with other retailers would be likely. The development would not only aid competition in the area, but would also bring greater shopping choice to local residents and create up to 40 new local jobs.

Please visit out dedicated website (www.southampton.lidl.co.uk) for full details of the proposal.
