Lidl has submitted a joint planning application for a new neighbourhood discount food store and a Home Bargains variety discount retailer on land currently occupied by the former Megabowl bowling alley on Plymouth Road in Plympton, Plymouth.

The site currently comprises of a vacant large single storey warehouse style building. The building has remained vacant for the last few years and is now in a poor state of repair.

The single-storey Lidl store is proposed to have a net sales area of 1,063m² with 71 surface level parking bays.

Lidl will employ up to 40 full and part-time staff who will be sourced locally.

The Lidl strategy is to offer our customers the highest quality products at the lowest prices via neighbourhood stores serving local needs at convenient locations.

We have around 1,600 carefully selected product lines of which approximately 80% are own brand. This is in comparison to other mainstream food retailers who normally offer between 10,000 and 30,000 lines. Offering this limited range allows Lidl to maintain low prices whilst not compromising the quality of our range.

Lidl's limited range of products and modest turnover will ensure that any impact on Plympton is minimal. A discount food store on the former Megabowl site may also claw-back shopping trips made to the out-of-centre Tesco and Sainsbury’s stores.

Home Bargains are a variety discount retailer, selling a range of bulky and non-bulky comparison goods, with an ancillary but fundamental range of ambient food and drink products. They carry a wide range of top quality, high street brands – from health and beauty products to household goods, food, toys and much more.

We, the undersigned, fully support Lidl's application for the provision of a new Lidl foodstore and a Home Bargains variety discount retailer on land currently occupied by the former Megabowl bowling alley on Plymouth Road in Plympton, Plymouth.

We agree to our petition data being used to lobby local Councillors and Plymouth City Council as part of the application.
