We, the undersigned, are requesting to name the field at Handel Stadium after the late Jim Howell. The name would read: "Jim Howell Field at Handel Stadium".
Jim Howell was an educator for AUHSD from 1961-1997. He was a Physical Education teacher, Athletic Director, and Head Football coach at Western from 1979-1996. Prior to his tenure at Western high School, Jim Howell also lead Magnolia High School as the Head Coach. The late Coach Howell was known for his dedication to students and athletes alike. He stood as a mentor and positive role model for many youth throughout the Anaheim Union High School District.
This petition lends support to this proposal, which will be presented and decided upon at the Anaheim Union High School Board meeting, on Thursday, September 10th, at 6pm. This meeting will take place at the district office at 501 Crescent Way in Anaheim for those who wish to attend and lend support.
We, the undersigned, call on the AUHSD School Board Members to approve the request to change the name of Handel Stadium to "Jim Howell Field at Handel Stadium".
We fully support this proposal to honor and memorialize Jim Howell as an exemplary educator and coach who served as a positive role model to thousands of youth during his entire career as an educator and athletic director.
