In 2013 the City of Freeport, Texas sent an invitation for proposal submissions concerning residential development of a 13.19 acre tract located on W. 2nd Street.

This land has never been on the city tax role and subsequently has never generated revenue for Freeport.

The City of Freeport has received a very generous offer from Skymark Development Company, Inc. with an estimated completed value of $8,000,000.00

Unfortunately, the citizens are in danger of losing the most comprehensive residential development proposal offered to Freeport in decades.

Please read the following petition and let City Council know that we support the economic growth and development of our beloved city.

In 2013 the City of Freeport, Texas sent an invitation for proposal submissions concerning the residential development of a 13.19 acre tract located on W. 2nd Street. Skymark Development Company, Inc. responded with the following proposal:
42 Single Family Lots
26 Town home Lots (a gated community located closest to the old Brazos River that includes boat slips)
All infrastructure costs will be absorbed by Skymark.

The contract clearly states that apartments will not be built - these are strictly home sites with sq. footage requirements, front facades that must be brick or stone, two car garage for family lots (one car for town home lots), driveway, and exterior front landscaping.

The proposed location is very attractive to would-be residents: within walking distance of 2 schools, shopping centers and the beautiful Old Brazos River.

The proposed development has a completed value of $8,000,000.00.
Revenue from property taxes and utility consumption are currently estimated at $87,872.00 annually.

The $87,872.00 proposed annual revenue does not include: sales tax, or income generated from local businesses due to increasing demands for: food, clothing, gasoline, entertainment, etc. and does not consider the demand these new residents would create for new business development.

Skymark Development has agreed to pay all infrastructure costs and to make best efforts to employ local people for the proposed construction.

We are in grave danger of losing the most significant residential development proposal (and subsequent business growth) Freeport has been offered in decades.

Our sister cities are experiencing rapid growth. The current economy is fast paced and demands more housing in our immediate area. If Council votes down Skymark's proposal it's unlikely that other developers would take interest after the rejection of such a generous proposal. Skymark has also stated in its proposal that further development interest in Freeport could be experienced by Skymark as a result of accepting the current proposal.

It is imperative that we move forward as a city and encourage growth. Join us in supporting Freeport's success by signing this petition so that City Council can be fully aware of its citizens concerns.

Thank you.
