Conservative front-bencher David Davis will resign to cause a by-election on the issue of detention without trial. People of all political persuasions are supporting this brave and noble act.
The motion was only passed by the Government offering bribes to individual MPs and the Democratic Unionist Party. Even then it was a narrow victory - by just nine votes. There is no democratic mandate for this draconian action.
We support the decision of David Davies to resign and cause a by-election for his Parliamentary Constituency.
He is allowing the public to debate and express their concern at the extension of detention without trial to 42 days.
We oppose this further restriction of our traditional rights and freedoms and support all those campaigning against it.
We call on all members of the House of Lords and Commons to do all in their power to block the introduction of this law.
