Efforts are now underway establish the 17,084 Condor Peak Wilderness Area in the Angeles National Forest north of Big Tujunga Canyon. A wilderness is a section of federal public land officially designated by Congress to be managed to maintain its natural character free of roads, buildings and infrastructure.

The recent controversy about routing the high speed rail though (or under) the Angeles National Forest is cautionary tale that we should better protect our undeveloped National Forest open space. This effort is complimentary to other local efforts to preserve the natural character of Big Tujunga Canyon.

No existing homes, cabins or private land in-holdings are affected. In fact, Wilderness Areas make good neighbors since they prohibit new roads and infrastructure and preserve scenic vistas, sources of clean drinking water, habitat for many unique plants and animals, wildlife corridors and opportunities for peace and solitude.

We urge Congress to establish the 17,084 acre Condor Peak Wilderness area located in the Angeles National Forest north of Big Tujunga Canyon.
