There is currently a DA with the City of Sydney for a Rooftop Cinema at 78-80 Commonwealth St Surry Hills with the capacity for 175 people in the cinema and 75 people in the bar. This cinema has the potential to severely disrupt nearby residents:

- the venue will operate as a bar, restaurant and cinema until 11pm six nights a week and to 10pm on Sundays.

- the venue will create excessive light, noise and traffic congestion - especially for residents of Sydney Mansion, The Carlyle, Knightsbridge, Madison, Belvedere, Charles Chambers Court and the other buildings around Harmony Park.

Although the application is for a Rooftop Cinema, the venue will be operating as a bar and restaurant for a majority of the time and also hired out for Corporate functions.

We need to stop this development before it destroys the village atmosphere of our neighbourhood. This petition will be presented at the next meeting Council concerning this DA.

We, the undersigned, strongly object to the application for a Rooftop Cinema at 78-80 Commonwealth St Surry Hills.

We feel that this development would be enormously detrimental to the area and would create significant disruption to residents due to excessive noise, light and traffic congestion.

We urge the Sydney City Council to reject this application.
