The mine is against the wishes of the traditional owners, the Mirrar Gundjehmi.
Jabiluka mine makes Kakadu a dumping ground for 20 million tonnes of radioactive waste. Uranium from Jabiluka feeds the nuclear fuel cycle worldwide: an industry increasingly recognised as unsafe and uneconomical.
The European Parliament and the Australian Senate have formally condemned the proposal. Kakadu IS a World Heritage Area.
To the honorable Speaker and the Members of the House of Representatives assembled in Parliament:
We the undersigned petition that the House take action to stop the operation of the Jabiluka Uranium mine. We also ask that the Australian Federal Government fund a program to return the affected area to its natural state.
The Stop the Jabiluka uranium mine petition to Australian Government was written by Rasta Man and is in the category Environment at GoPetition.
