Thank you to everyone who signed this petition, and another thank you to those who have spread the word about it to others.
The petition was a success! County Council have decided to keep the 42 turtle crossing signs that are up right now, and they will only put up new signs if the area is a protected provincially important wetland.
In 2001 a group called Kids 4 Turtles raised $4000 to put up turtle crossing signs. Signs reduce turtle road kill by 30 per cent.
Kawartha Turtle Trauma Centre (a local organization in Peterborough) has been working for five years to try and build awareness regarding the plight of turtles in Ontario and to provide hospital care for turtles that have been hit by vehicles.
We, the undersigned, call on the Peterborough County to reinstate the turtle crossing signs.
