It has come to my attention that the former York Hotel nearCardiff Central train station has had the go-ahead for demolition. I am aware that it is in a dilapidated state, but I believe the facade could be salvaged at least! It would be such a shame.
Cardiff has already lost too many of its beautiful old buildings, thanks to the powers-that-be carrying out their heavyhanded developments, without little to no public consultation. Bute Street has lost its charm. The York Hotel is one of the few remaining artifacts from a by-gone era. It is a link to a past which cannot be recaptured.
I believe with some imagination the old can stand alongside the new. Is there nothing that can be done to stop this wasteful, mindless destruction ofCardiff's character and heritage?
We, the undersigned, call on Cardiff Council to stop the demolition of the former York Hotel.
