The cause of the problem is the block of garages behind our property and the access alleyway leading from Hambling Place to Benning Avenue.
There has been a big increase of vandalism over the last few years, the block of garages behind our property was often the target of vandals and several of the garages were set alight and the fire brigade called out by the residents.
The council took action to protect their property and put up metal fencing (about 8 ft high with padlocks) keepers of the garages have to lock and unlock these gates in order to obtain access to their garage.
We believe the solution can be found by moving the existing access gates (which now only protect the garages) to each end of the alleyway leading from Hambling Place to Benning Avenue, thus giving protection to local home owners as well.
This change would not effect the existing garage keyholders but would only serve to stop unwanted vandalism.
