On August 10, 2012, it was reported by ModernHealthcare.com that during a meeting seven days prior the city of Lakeland, Florida’s seven-member commission decided that the future of healthcare would lye solely in their hands.
The commission chose not observe the plan to extend healthcare coverage to same-sexed partners of city employees. Our recently re-elected president, Barack Obama, “the leader of the free world” throughout his stay in the White House has always openly expressed his support of equal rights amongst all.
President Obama makes it a point to include the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) community in the discussion of equality because he believe they deserve the same rights as everyone else.
We, the undersigned, call on the city of Lakeland to allow same-sex couple equal rights.
The gay community is being denied the opportunity to cover their domestic partner under their city job insurance policy.
