On October 20th 2020, the government of Nigeria opened fire on young citizens who were peacefully protesting against police brutality and the indiscriminate killing of youths, by the Nigerian Police Force. The incident at the Lekki Toll gate, in Lagos State resulted in the indiscriminate murder of the peaceful protesters. This is a direct violation of the Article 19, and 20(1) of the 1966 United Nations International Covenants on Civil and Political Rights, Article 11 of the 1981 African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights, and Sections 39 and 40 of 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended).
